Overview

In accordance with 16 KAR 5:040, all cooperating teachers and university supervisors must complete the required Cooperating Teacher Training prior to supervising a student teacher.

The training consists of three required components established by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB):

• Part A: Basic responsibilities of the cooperating teacher and university supervisor
• Part B: Best practices for supporting a student teacher
• Part C: Assessment of the student teacher. This component is provided by the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) with which the cooperating teacher is partnered and is completed in conjunction with the student teaching experience.

Both Parts A and B of the required training are provided at no cost through the KY Learning Hub and must be completed online. Part C is provided by the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) with which the cooperating teacher is partnered and is completed as part of the student teaching experience.

Accessing the Training

The required Cooperating Teacher Training is available through the KY Learning Hub.

To access the course:

1. Visit the KY Learning Hub – Cooperating Teacher Preparation | OELE.
2. Sign in using your existing KY Learning Hub account or create an account if you are a first-time user.
3. Enroll in the Cooperating Teacher Preparation | OELE course.
4. Complete all required training modules and activities.
5. Download your Part A Certificate of Completion upon successfully completing Part A of the training.

After Completing the Training

Part A

After completing Part A, you are responsible for uploading your Part A Certificate of Completion* to the Kentucky Educator Credentialing System (KECS).

To upload your certificate:

1. Sign in to your KECS account.
2. Select the Profile tab.
3. Under the General section in the left navigation menu, select Coop Teacher.
4. Click the “+ New Training” link
5. Complete the prompt to upload your Part A Certificate of Completion and save your submission.

*Cooperating teachers are encouraged to retain a copy of their Part A Certificate of Completion for their records.

Part B

After completing Part B, notify your Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) that you have completed the training. Contact information for your coordinator can be found at EPP Placement Coordinators. Your EPP will verify your completion and record it in KECS as part of the student teaching placement process. You do not need to upload documentation for Part B.

Part C

To complete Part C training, contact the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP) that is partnering with the cooperating teacher. Part C is completed through the EPP as part of the student teaching experience.
