How long have you been teaching? This is my 9th year teaching.
Why did you become a teacher? The amazing teachers in my life influenced me to become a teacher. I wanted to impact others the way they impacted me. Plus I have a passion for Family and Consumer Sciences!
What has been the best part of teaching that you didn’t expect when entering the profession? I love getting to watch my students grow up as they continue to take my classes year after year. My job provides a unique opportunity to spend a lot of time with students and sometimes the relationships developed even last after they graduate. For instance, I have had several former students return to be guest speakers for classes.
What is one thing you wish non-teachers knew about what you do? Yes, we have 2 months of during the summer, but we fit in 12 months of work into 10 😉
What do you consider your greatest accomplishment as a teacher? My greatest accomplishment as a teacher is starting a student based business called Sew Cooper. Students complete custom sewing, alterations, embroidery, vinyl, and heat press orders. The money we earn goes right back into funding class projects and trips.
What is your favorite thing to do when you aren’t teaching? I love spending time with my family (my husband, 2 kids, 2 dogs and 2 cats!) and tending to my flower garden.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? I would love to travel to the Almafi Coast in Italy!
