The Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board issues three different types of certificates for substitute teaching.

Please note that a professional teaching certificate also allows the certificate holder to serve as a substitute teacher. An emeritus certificate is valid for substitute teaching as allowed by KRS 161.605 and the administrative regulations of the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System.

NOTE: ANY certificate for substitute teaching is valid for substitute teaching only and is not valid for the permanent replacement of a teacher of record.
