Eligibility

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.

Applying for an Emergency Substitute Certificate

STEP 1: Contact the local school district board of education office to make application on the district’s standard employment application form.
STEP 2: Submit verification of successful completion of high school or equivalent to the local board of education office.
STEP 3: Create an account on the Kentucky Educators Credentialing System (KECS).
STEP 4: Follow the prompts in the application wizard to apply for Emergency Substitute Certification.
STEP 5: Complete the Character and Fitness review.
STEP 6: Submit the application.
