Teacher works with small group at table.Field experience is a crucial components of teacher education, with field experience providing early, foundational exposure to teaching in real-world settings. 16 KAR 5:040 governs admission, placement, and supervision in student teaching and stipulates that all candidates electronically document 200 hours of fieldwork prior to student teaching. The Kentucky Field Experience Tracking System (KFETS) is used for documenting field experience hours.

KFETS is an online platform developed by the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) to monitor the field experiences of teacher candidates in Kentucky. It enables candidates to log and track the required 200 hours of field experience before student teaching.

Through KFETS, candidates can:
  • Record Field Experience Hours: Log hours completed during field placements.
  • Submit for Review: submit logged hours for institutional review and approval if needed.
  • Transfer Records: Transfer field experience records between institutions if necessary.

To access KFETS, candidates must create an account on the Kentucky Educator Credentialing System (KECS), where the system is available by clicking Profile in the navigation bar then clicking the Field Experience Records link under the Education category in the side menu. It’s important to note that candidates can only record hours after their institution uploads the course information for selection in KFETS.

For assistance with KFETS, candidates can view application manuals in the help center on KECS or can contact their specific institution. Any general inquiries by the EPSB provider can be sent to: Brandon.Harrod@education.ky.gov.
