I became a teacher because I wanted to share my love of learning with others. I have a passion for history, and I love it when I see my students excited about coming to class, working on PBL projects, and making connections to historical events we are learning about. I want to inspire students to find what interests them and learn as much as they can about it and be as passionate about it as I am about history and teaching!

An example of this is that my 5th grade class did a project about increasing student voice in our school and decided to advocate for creating a student council. After researching and hearing from guest speakers like our state representative and county clerk, students presented their idea to our school’s Site-Based Decision Making council for approval. We had our first school wide student council election recently and have established our council! I want my students to be active citizens who are connected not just to their school community but also to our local community, because this prepares them to be state and national citizens when they are adults.
