My mother was a reading teacher. I always volunteered at church for Bible school, and I volunteered to teach swim lessons at our local Red Cross. When I went to college, I realized two years in that I didn’t want to pursue law as my major. So I switched majors. How else to better share my passion for law and government than through teaching?
I connect my students’ learning to the real world through current events, encouraging students to pay attention to the world around them. In U.S. History, we do mapping activities so that they can visualize where events are taking place today. I maintain high expectations in class, teaching students how to be respectful to others in asking questions, even when they think differently. I currently teach Social Studies and the Teaching and Learning Pathway; I am passionate about “growing our own” future teachers.
