Attending college, I never intended to go into education. The mentality instilled in us at Alice Lloyd was to return to the mountains and serve the people. After graduating in May 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Sociology degree, I moved back home and began working at the local state park while substitute teaching. It became clear that to remain in our rural community, I needed to pursue a career in the medical or education field.

I returned to Union College, where I obtained my Master’s degree in Special Education and a Rank 1 in Curriculum and Instruction. For the past 20 years, I have been fortunate to work in the Bell County School System as a special education teacher, specializing in grades 5-8. I sincerely hope that I am making a difference in my students’ lives.

Reflecting on my path, I realize this is my true calling. Two of my high school history teachers, Mr. Dale Hoskins and Pamela Walters Miracle, inspired me immensely. Mr. Hoskins, a basketball coach, taught me the value of hard work and belief in oneself. Pam, who I admired from a young age, showed unwavering dedication to her students. Her passion for teaching history ignited my own, and I strive to create engaging, hands-on experiences in my classroom.

I love my school, my colleagues, and most of all, my students. They are my WHY, and I am grateful to be on this journey with all of you.
