Educational professionals weave in and out of formal and informal leadership roles throughout their career pathways. It is through these roles teachers, principals, and administrators effectively impact the growth of self, students, peers, school culture, and their local, state, and global community.
Definition of Teacher Leadership
Teacher leaders transform their classrooms, schools, and profession, activating teacher growth and achieving equity and excellence for students.
Framework Spheres
The Kentucky Teacher Leadership Framework contains six spheres or dimensions, each describing a set of dispositions, core beliefs, knowledge base, requisite skills and unique roles for teacher leaders. While the spheres are interrelated, with each one broadening the stage for teacher leadership, individual teachers are not expected to fulfill every role. Rather, these six spheres suggest multiple roles for teacher leaders. Dispositions are enriched as teacher leaders work within the various spheres. The six spheres are:
- Leading from the Classroom
- Leading through Modeling and Coaching
- Leading through Groups and Teams
- Leading to Increase Teacher Voice and Influence
- Leading to Professionalize Teaching
- Leading to Connect to Larger Community and World
