Sam is a National Board Certified Teacher and a semi-finalist for 2021 Kentucky Teacher of the Year!

I am and long to be a lifelong learner. Teaching allows me to share my joy of learning with children and adults. I desire to give students unforgettable educational experiences that will incite their love of learning.

Teaching has given me one-of-a-kind professional learning experiences that guide and inspire my curriculum. In 2014, I spent four weeks in China on the Fulbright-Hays Summer Seminars Abroad Program. I voyaged to Antarctica as a National Geographic Grosvenor Teacher Fellow in 2016. From January to April 2018, I traveled to Finland as part of the Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program to research best practices for project-based learning. These destinations are amazing, but the most valuable part of these programs is my connections with teachers from around the world.

When I am not teaching, you can find me spending time with my family. My wife, Kara, is a first-grade teacher. We love to take our son, Nathan, on adventures to the park or journeys through a good book.

My super power would be slowing time! I wish I could pause the hands of a clock to enjoy life’s special moments even longer. There is so much to see, and so much I don’t want to miss. I just need more time!
