Kentucky Evaluation Calibration Cadre
The Kentucky Evaluation Calibration Cadre was a two-year professional learning initiative centered on strengthening school leaders’ ability to accurately and consistently apply the Kentucky Framework for Teaching criteria to classroom observations. A key focus of the cadre was building participants’ skill in analyzing classroom video lessons, allowing educators from across the state to engage in a shared observation experience.
Participants regularly watched the same recorded classroom lessons and independently collected evidence aligned to the Framework. From there, they engaged in rich calibrating conversations, comparing interpretations and discussing what constituted high-quality, objective evidence. These structured discussions were a cornerstone of the experience, helping educators refine their ability to distinguish between evidence and opinion, align observations to specific components of the Framework, and apply performance levels with greater precision.
Through repeated practice and collaborative dialogue, cadre members developed a deeper, more consistent understanding of effective teaching and how to evaluate it fairly and accurately. The emphasis on shared observation and evidence-based discussion fostered stronger alignment and increased confidence in evaluation practices.
The cadre has now successfully concluded, leaving participants with enhanced calibration skills, practical tools, and a stronger foundation for supporting high-quality instruction.
